Vocabulary Pix

Third graders found visual representations for this unit's vocabulary words. Even though these are words from our Greek Mythology unit, they had to have at least one modern representation for one of their words. Take a peek!

If only I could see that movie!

Today, 3rd grade students chose their favorite Greek Myth and imagined what it would be like if it were a real movie. They then decided what the best parts of the movie would be in order to create a "movie trailer" using iMovie. I know I wish they were real movies! Check them out!

WeDo Giants

Did you know that even before electricity was invented, people were imagining "robots"? Stories in Greek mythology refer to a giant Metal monster named Talos who protected the island of Crete. Today third graders designed their own giant and programmed it to scare away possible attackers. Some students even had a chance to add motion sensors. Check out their work - if you dare.

Claymation

5th graders created Didactic stories (story with a moral) today using ipads. They "app-smashed" to create a claymation story first using the app StopMotion, then pulled that into iMovie to add music, sound effects, and titles. MORE COMING NEXT WEEK

WeDo ArtBots 2.0

Fourth graders had a very challenging engineering task today! They designed a robot that can be programmed to create art. There were no plans to follow - they used their knowledge of gears and Lego mechanics in order to build a unique robot. We actually focused on our mistakes today and used what didn't work to figure out and re-design. Check out our "reflect and re-design" projects by watching the video!

Courtroom Cartoons

Students created some real courtroom dramas cartoons today. Using ipad and a fun app called Toontastic, students embedded multiple vocabulary words into the scripts. They used humor and creativity! Check out the creative cartoons!

Fred's Stop Motion Movie

Fourth graders had an opportunity to help our gummy friend, Fred again. Only this time, they invented the "problem". Students were to write stories with a clear plot and no dialogue. The had to develop characters, decide on materials, and were involved in set-design. Then they produced Stop Motion videos where a problem Fred has is solved. We then "App-Smashed" the videos by pulling the product from one app into another app in order to enhance it with titles and background music. Click HERE to check out these creative short stories.

Check out our third graders hard at work preparing Fred for his journey. To be successful they showed problem-solving skills, collaboration, attention to detail, and creativity as they build, modified, and programmed our Lego WeDo robots.

Coaster Craze

Check out our young 5th grade engineers! They had to design a coaster that they think will be able to come to a stop at the end of the track without flying off. They tried their plan on a coaster simulator and will then be creating 3D models - all while staying under budget! Coaster Craze part 2 Using the design from the coaster simulator, students created 3D models. The challenge: Create a coaster with just enough energy (kinetic/potential) to have the train (marble) make it to the end of the track without going over. Safe brake systems and energy manipulation had to be used to survive this challenge.

Monster Robots!

Today students built robots from a plan, modified monsterfied them, and programmed them. Check out the crazy monster robots!
