5th grade Farewell
Wow!! Some of you have been in class for three years!! I hate to let you go - but I know you will go out there and do amazing things! Before you go - take some time to remember all we have done and how much you have grown!

Trout Released!

Instant Challenge
4th and 5th students attempted a balance of power instant challenge this week. The task: Build a structure that only touches the "ground" on the red square, but can suspend pennies over purple squares. Check out the problem solving and solutions from both classes.

Claymation
5th graders created Didactic stories (story with a moral) today using ipads. They "app-smashed" to create a claymation story first using the app StopMotion, then pulled that into iMovie to add music, sound effects, and titles.

Courtroom Cartoons
Students created some real courtroom dramas cartoons today. Using ipad and a fun app called Toontastic, students embedded multiple vocabulary words into the scripts. They used humor and creativity! Check out the creative cartoons!

Animated Flipbooks
This week, 5th graders had a guest speaker! Mrs. Mangum came in to teach them how to use PowerPoint to create flipbooks. Click HERE to check out these creative short cartoons.

Out of the Net
Our little Alevins were released into the tank today from their cozy nest net. Check out the fun video of the Alevins' adventure.
Chess "Simul"
Today Mr. Arney challenged our 5th graders to a game of chess! Yes, ALL of them - at the same time! In a format called a "simul" Mr. Arney walked around the room making his moves on 14 boards. Students planned their next move while he moved around the room. What a fun event! The kids learned a lot and enjoyed the challenge.

Hatched!
As of Friday, there were about six eggs hatched. Check out the video below to see what I walked into on Monday morning - 59 little sac fry (a.k.a. - Alevin).

Fish Eggs Hatch!
5th graders predicted the hatch date of our rainbow trout eggs (based on mathematical calculations). And they were RIGHT! Fish started hatching on Jan. 28! Check out the time-lapse video to see them hatch. As of Friday, approximately 6 of 60 fish have hatched.
